g tialer nose heavy ?
About to fit the roll cage this week, and am going to test the g this weekend keeping everything standard apart from ive removed the anti roll bar keeping the diesel for now and that's my question , is the short wheelbase nose heavy with the diesel ? going to be competing against a bunch of Land Rover nuts that only ever seem to drive off cliffs.
Many thanks Andy
andy, don't disconnect the anti roll bar, been there done that, with front lockers u just don't need the extra articulation, you will get use to wheels coming of the ground, I rolled mine because I took the anti roll bar off, I tried the same section with it on the previous year and it didnt roll. All it does is make the front end lean more. It affects your C of G. Seriously it's pointless. And yes they are nose heavy, when they roll they roll on the front edge of wing and a pillars, and fitting a roll cage to STD g is also adding to weight but, the protection of a g wagen is already superb , talking from experience, rolling Over and over down a 1 in 4 hill, the strenght is unbelievable
yes air lockers are instant, with the G you need to allow 10ft to engage/disengage as the castellations ar fewer than say a landy, but not sure about a mog, you will get use to planning ahead, read the terrain and you will be fine.
rover v8 no need
musso TD i recon would be better
or lexus v8, light and powerful, the comp safari boys love them.
Coppied from other post
"Had a ride in a Musso engined G460 SWB last year....went like a rocket and sounded great! This was on the 230 manual box...Alternator has very little clearance hence engine mounts custom made when engine in best spot. Getting the intercooler slotted in front of the radiator with plumbing took him some fiddling. Exhaust modded to a side pipe through of all things a TR5 exhaust. Intake through a large bore K&N filter...std air box didn't provide enough air. This would be the way I'd go to add power to my GD.....though pure corn oil is like rocket fuel! "
Tends to be nose heavy more than the landies and I have the same issue with the lockers, they ain't instant by a long shot.

Hi, I did the same and fitted an exo cage as the roof lip on mine was constantly getting hammered when brushing against trees especially on the pass. side. I also took the anti roll bar off. More wheels in contact with the ground= good. But as MR. Perfect says one must excercise due care or else. Also fabricated a alu gearbox pan to protect the autobox and a set of treesliders too down low.

how about some pictures of your truck then :?:
here's some pictures of two of my G wagens with cages for inspiration, the black one was the first cage I ever built and certainly wouldnt do it like that again it makes it to wide at the sills like that, the one on the orange one is much neater, but don't forget on the front hoop it isn't just bolted to the top of the wings, there is a corresponding plate and piece of tube under the wing going back to the chassis,
I don't think I would change much on this cage type when I'M doing the next one, on the note of G's being front heavy Ive since moved the front axle on the orange one forward 6" which will in theory will make it slightly less nose heavy although this isn't why Ive moved it. as it is it has three winches, front, rear and center paying out at top of the cab off the cage, Roley Roley!
if i were doing it again I think I would just have one big ass center winch to do all three lowering the weight on the front wheels and increasing the approach angle,as the say there is no such thing as a free education
as for what tyreman said "more tyres on the ground=good"
this should have quite a bit of flex when finished
pictures of betty blue posted on the gallery. took awhile to get them there.

see mick did you have to do that, you know it pisses me off, showing all your toys, and fabrication skills, makes me feel I have'nt done anything with my life !
cheers peter will bear your advise in mind the body was well shot on mine so have had to fit the cage . it goes against the grain but thinking about rover v8 purely because of the weight ,if you have trialed yours how quick do you find the difflocks ? on my g wagons all seem slow to let go unlike the air ones on the unimog range.
