Windscreen Gasket
Well, my G is all painted and re-assembled - finally. So, I dropped it off to the glass installers this morning and found we have a problem. The reason I buy MB genuine parts is so there's no issues yet the gasket doesn't fit. It's too long at the bottom. So the dealer rechecked with my vin and said it is the correct one - so I showed them my old one and they said they'll have to contact support by email. Meantime, there's no windscreen in my G and now I have to wait for who knows how long.
Did anyone else ever hear of a gasket issue or know of a solution?
Thanks - David

I've never heard of there being 2 different sized windscreens on the G over its entire production, so I'm most surprised that the part is "wrong".
Do you still have the old one to install temporanus.?
Maybe they should try harder  Offering it up to the windscreen and saying it doesn't fit is not always the best way of testing fit. I had the same issue with my sunroof seal, new one looked identical but seemed too big for the opening, but after fitting it most of the way round it just about fit in (after a lot of persuasion).
Hi David Have them put the windscreen seal around the glass!!! then offer it up with the cord in place smeared with a "little" washing up liquid....pull the cord and the seal lip should mate with ease....make sure the metal surround is clean and NO rust anywhere along the interface edge otherwise it will leak......

don't mean to offend, but on a note of using washing up liquid its less than ideal!
washing up liquid is full of salt to break down grease on dishes, not what you want to be putting near a newly restored vehicle as it will do nothing but encourage rust!
use some tyre bead lube, synthetic grease or vaseline if your stuck
i finally relented and paid top $$ for my front door seals last week.
same thing, 3/4 or the way it would seem that the seals are at least about 1" longer than they should be. but after a bit of work, things fell right into place. i suppose more rubber between any 2 parts is better than not enough
you really should give it a go, and have them try to put it in
compare the length before installation just to find out if indeed there's a length difference. for the curious minds
I wish Roly; they decided to cut out the old one almost a year ago - it's just lucky they still had it in the pile of parts for re-assembly. The part number on the new MB package is A4606710320 which seems correct but obviously something didn't work out, either bad batch or ???.
