The dead line to register for the trip in June 2009 is tomorrow, 31st March on line. I have thought long and hard, but have decided I will not be going, as much as I do wish to.

Out of interest, can I have a show of hands, of those, whom are firmly committed to go?

 This is what I am not sure of. I have emailed to both the German and Swiss email adresses enquiring for clearification to this point, without reply, my second attempt to email the German club produced same results, I have made a few phone calls, largely with out answer and on one occassion I even called the German G-Wagen club number and the jist of the conversation was to ring back.

From the programme, reading it over and over, my understanding is that the €275 is a particpation fee, it is not clear as to what event! They talk of having a Birthday meal in the evening and a concours to be held in the afternoon and have mentioned that the meal is included within this price, so the question I had put to them was, if one did not want to enter the concours can we pay seperately towards the evening b/day meal?

In another reading of the same, I have picked up that the participation fee is for every one, down to younger children, from that, I would take it to mean effectively this is the entry fee to take part in the event its self. The younger children will not be entering in any concors will they?

Adding to the above charge, cost of fuel, crossing charges, road toll and the cheapest accomodation I could find from €45.00 per night/per person, with free parking, spending money, drinks and food; I certanly would not be willing to with less than £1500 budget. For that sort of money I would expect a little more and trip around the factory which is to be shown to every attending from 9:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs only, what are the chance of being missed out from the trip? Another, question possed in my email.

A trip to the Mountain (I am not spelling it's name, I'll have to look it up) is not definate, then you have two road maps to do your own bit with. There is to be a display of G-Wagens and the concours event, the finale, a city parade.

"There is no meat on th bone". From the entertainment point of view there is no off roading or track skills to experience, on the whole it sounds like a half measure. But, I am quite sure there must have been quite an effort put in, behind the scenes, which I do not wish to undermine, all I am saying is that for the effort expended it seems they could have done better especially this is the 30th milestone.

Sadly,

hmmmmm, £1500 sounds too much! €275 per person for the entry is just... mind blowing!

well if it has anything to do with martin bruninger or whatever his surname is it's just a money spinner for him, which is why your getting no reply, remember him from the visit I did with him to Graz years ago. It would be better emailing jurgen achilies

You must be reading that wrong. I'm sure the paragraph you read that amount from was under the heading "ALL G500 and G55 Owners"only, not us mere mortals surely!

Am I glad I went with the club last year. Now that was a good trip!!!

Hmmm... i have just read that again (not the original, i only found that somewhere on this forum). Perhaps I need some new glasses, but I don't see where the 'All G500 and G55 owners' is :'(

Would be fantastic if we non-G500/G55 owners are exempt from the €275 entry free!

Well guys,

think about having +500 people for the birthday dinner/meal

- the bangers & mash would be cold already getting to your place!

And the wait in line for everything - worst than Disneyland :D and they

charge pretty good as well......

I'm driving to Lake Tahoe instead - being with good friendly G-wagen folks,

enjoying the drive from LA through the gorgeous Sierra Nevada .....for sure

not in any convoy - G-wagen or not.

If you have nothing else planned - come 'on over here......

The invitation sounds more hospitable than the German do. But alas, it a big step for me.

How about Spyder pay and we all climb into his vehicle for the trip all the way to Graz and back.
Anybody want to do the maths on that, don't bother whatever way you look at it its still a rip off, G500/55 or not.

And again I state what a excellent trip to Graz the club had.

Time is nearly up to sign on for the bratwurst merry go round.

Regards,

Mike

PS Spyder...... no offence ment or implied, just in case!

I'll hopefully be seeing some of the chaps in the german G club this week in Essen, if I can find one that speaks english I'll ask them if it was 275 per person.Problem I've found with them on the net and face to face is they are not very communicative, even when speaking german.

Mike,

None taken  - Us elitist learn to forgive mere mortals

Though I will say, we were thinking of it and initially I thought it was 270 PER G, which added to the cost of Petrol, Hotel, spending money for the kids, Wife etc - would have been acceptable BUT 270 per person and the change in exchange rates suddenly made this a rather expensive trip.

Just wondering, maybe with the Money Mercedes would make out of the publicity and extra G sales they may distribute to the clubs? Or maybe the corporate tickets they give to the big customers is some way being covered by the enthusiasts? meh - I dunno.

Re: 30th anniversary D/line....

my post from the other place:

i originally thought of going, but decided against it because all that appealed to me was the factory tour & shockl drive.

& since i probably wont be driving all the way from indonesia, i thought the factory tour alone is not worth my airfare, room & board, & the entrance fee

which is too bad, because i really wanted to see the production line
plus the way the economy is at the moment, i figure any penny saved is probably going to go along way once needed

maybe there's hope for another factory tour trip in the future that i could join.

New Dead line date!

Dead Line for registary to the 30th do is now 15th April 2009.

ALSO, the event to drive the G-Test Track, off-road course has now been confirmed and is open to the event.

I do not think this is April the 1st joke?, or could it be.

Programme Reiterated.

15th April 2009: - New Dead Line to register on line. It has been made clear to me after several phone calls to the Germans and Swiss. As, heard from the “horses mouth”, the €275 per person is an entry fee for all!

18th June 2009: - Arrivals to the event. But, there is no information on where to report for this; at the Factory or at Schwarzlsee Recreation Centre. There are no charges to the centre or parking on site. There is no information about camping on site. This centre is some 5 Kms South of Graz, an easy journey on the Motorway, literally from one exist to another. Venues at each end of the Motorway are almost off the junctions.

We are expected to sign in, but without knowing where to do this, it becomes awkward as one has to also to check in to our nominated accommodation where, ever that may be.

From 19:00 hrs, there is a gathering to the anniversary, celebrated with a pig roast meal severed during the evening. You pay individually, for food and drinks’.

19th June 2009: - 09:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs. Arrive at the factory, and collectively, a Shuttle Bus will transport you to the assembly hall. Groups of 20’s will tour the assembly line in between the above time. There is no mention of any English speaking guides or where to register for the tour. Not even sure, if this is a first come, first serve service. Aside, from this, it seems there is a display of various G-Wagens and different models on display. There is organised a driving skills’ competion.

For the rest of the afternoon, one may be spending time doing a mapped tour around Graz. A road map, in two parts will be distributed at the factory, I suppose. Very Recently confirmed, part of the road map plans to drive on the Schockl Mountain, partly, G-Wagens’ off road testing facility.

The evening closes with Styrian styled Cuisine, Wine and Music night. I can only guess, that the venue for this, is the Recreational centre. Food and drinks paid for, individually.

20th June 2009: - Basically, you are on your own for the Morning. There is the rest of road map to tour, other than, that, there is an event, taking place in the after noon (time???). This is a concourse of various categories with awards, some interesting entries based on what was displayed at the previous occasions.

The evening sees to an events’ ceremony, a festive banquet with entertainment. Food is covered in the entrance fee; drinks however, are individually settled.

21st June 2009: - 10:00hrs, departing from Schwarlsee a big G-Parade into and around the city of Graz, the event is expecting public viewing with the closure of the event by 14:00 hrs.

Disclaimer: - Changes to this schedule may be possible.

Other points of interest: Accommodation ranges from €45.00 to over and above, €120.00 per night, per person. On site parking is not available at all sites, do ensure for parking when booking. Where parking is available, this ranges from free, building to a nominal €4.00 per day to around €15.00 per day.

Remember, for those who are driving down, as you enter the Austrian customs boarder, you will need to purchase a Road token for the number of days you plan to be within Austria. A ten days toll token costs €7.70, these are bought from tobacconists, petrol stations closer to Austrian boarders. The tokens are to be mounted at the top middle to left hand side of the windscreen. Failure to display or have a valid token is a €120.00 on the spot fine. The Austrian Police are not forgiving.

Regards,

Ps, I have approached a few, but not exhausted Fuel companies to sponsor a subsidise collectively members travelling down their fuel costs, providing those members also agree to take part in sticking a poster of the missing young Madeline McCann from Portugal. This will be one sticker on the rear side glass on all vehicles. I am expecting eye brows will be raised should you guys end up to be in a convey as has been discussed by some in the fold. You need not learn any German, for the Germans do speak English on the Whole.
