My G is too high! G55 Suspension?
Hi All,
Now that I have fitted the AMG rims/Wheels I have what looks like 1 extra incl of clearance vs Maxwells and the G500 I saw on the weekend...it looks a little ungainly with such a gap...
1st Question: why might this be?
2nd: If I wanted to get it lower and like the G55- would it just mean changing srpings? Has anybody done this and know costs?
Thanks!
Ferdi
I think you might have an unusual aspect ratio on the tyres that in turn make them underfill/overfill the arches. Hassle of changing tyres is probably less than changing the springs, especially if you already have the right springs!
I got a bit of material from the US forum (P3) on springs, here is most of it, there is 1 more pdf file, drop me a PM with an email address if you'd like to have a look..

How about some pictures of that ungainly gap, what TYRES are on the rims !
yep they look naff alright.

What do you think, might be that the G was lifted by the previous owner, or the spare tyre is off making it too light at the back
No seriously, photos of a G55 are in order for comparison.
Beefier tyres would solve that problem, but rob you of some precious power.
Does this mean your old 16" wheels/tyres are for sale?
Do you have a photo of yours with the original wheels?
It is not exactly sound logic to compare it to a G55, you either want a non-AMG 463 with the exact same wheels/tyres that you know has a standard suspension, or your old wheels back (or at least a photo of them) to compare. The ground clearance does look more than the others.
I wouldn't compare it to a V8 463 as the suspension changed with the advent of the 500.
I seem to recall thinking your G was a little high the first time I met you... could be wrong though.
does look a tiny bit higher than mine
Perhaps if you can get in touch with the previous owner to shed some light on this mystery...
BTW - MB in the UK won't be able to give you any POV at all! Probably go "Sir, you mean a GL Class. We do not make a G Class... that is clearly a Defender which the previous owner decided to badge as a Mercedes..."
You could always park it next to mine...
