Hi mates,
I have Michelin Sychrone 225/75/16 on steel rims and I have bought alloy rims 6.5x16. My concern is what tire I should put on them. I am satisfied with Michelin as I use my car mostly on the road (80%-20%). Any recomendation as I would like to put 255/85/16 (70%-30% or 60%-40%)?
Regards Angelos

Hi Angelos,

Well wear with the new alloy rims.
As for the tyre issue maybe you could explain it a little better please?

Road use 80% = mich synchrone= very good
Off road use 80%= mud T/A = 255/85x16= very good
Road use = mud T/A and 255/85= not so good a choice

Suggestion
mixture of use using premium tyre only and not 2 different sets= 265/70x16 Michelin Latitude Cross or some other similiar brand (BFG, Pirelli, Goodyear etc) fitted to your new alloys should give you the best of both worlds.

Have fun!

Regards,

Mike

Thanks Mike for help,
I think you have right. I will follow your suggestion. I will ask price for Michelin Latitude.
Thanks again for immediate response.
My best regards

Hi Angelos,

Can concur with Tyreman: I think the MTs are particularly unsuitable for Greece. I have driven down to Greece 6 times and did it one year with 255/85MTs and never again! I now only use the 285/75ATs (on the LR and 275/75ATs on the G - these are very wide though and I have the later wider alloy rim). As your tarmac is very slippery, I find the ATs MUCH MUCH better on the roads, especially when braking and off road (admitedly only in the Summer), I've NEVER had a problem with them as you simply don't have the rain, or mud, that we have in the UK. They are also a LOT quieter when driving on roads (and oddly enough gravel tracks - I think they kick up less pebbles perhaps). Personally, I can't fault the BFGs: also, if you want to do a little more travelling around your area, every larger town sells them, so getting a spare (if, and this hasn't happened to me yet I may add) isn't a problem.

Hope that helps you and kalo taxidi.

Thanks Phileas,
I agree with you and I am working on that matter. It is easier to find BFG finally and much cheaper than Michelin. I am waiting for final prices from local dealers and I will decide. By the way as you have travelled so many times around greece, do you have A/C?
Many regards
Angelos
