Strange Gear set up
We're just puting the finishing touches to an 82 GD300 and have a question over the gears.
This box is 5 speed with reverse lift to the left. 1st is straight back from reverse and the rest follow in the h pattern. Is this a G wagen box or my mate remenbers the early sprinters had a similar pattern. If its a G box what selector do we need? Our current one is a bit of a bodge!
Cheers
Grendle
Sounds like a Getrag box with the dogleg 1st. As for the rest of your question, sorry, not a clue!
Hi the original G'box for an 82 G' should be 4 forward gears in an H profile with reverse to the left of the H with a gear selector with two control arms not three as for a five speed box.....put the vin number on here for build specification verification......
Hi, check the numbers here: http://www.4x4abc.com/G-Class/transmissions/getriebe.html
It can well be a G1/18-5/6,15 Model 711.116.
Though I suspect that the gearbox is from a W124 300E 24v or a W201 190E 2.3 16v or 2.5 16v...
cheers will check that.
