ABS Light 463
For the 1st time in 5 years my ABS light has come on, usually after going over bad road surfaces, switching the ABS off and on, causes the light to go out untill, the next pothole! Pretty certain its one of the back wheels, Is thereany obvious connection that gives trouble? Advice on checking? :?
since it appears to shock induced try checking the wiring to the sensors at each wheel
sometime the sensors at the wheels just need a bit of cleaning.
or the wiring might have lost some skins
Has any one got the breakdown of this area. I need to clean the sensor and would like to know what it looks like! and how to clean it.
Well the up side is that it looks like you’ve narrowed it down to the sensor connections
Suggest you now disconnect each one and check for any corrosion / high resistance connections.
Only other possible cause will be an actual break in one of the wires but not being obvious due to the insulation still holding together. Only likely cause of that being one of the wires not being correctly secured and flapping around.
Guys has anyone taken off the wheel and looked at the setup without obstructions? Or taken off the sheet metal spring holding the pads in the caliper? It will be obvious to you then what the sensors are and how they function, it looked simple to me once I'd done all the groundwork, and i'm not known for mechanical genius..why not give it a try.

Hi I can Email you pics of the ABS sensors and their locations on the axles if you PM me your email address ......
I think Mx you are confusing the pad sensors for wear?
oops too right
Hi there are sensors for each wheel ..suggest you have another faulty one or wiring decay close to the sensors causing your problem...
When I've taken out the rear axles, I've had to remove and then replace the ABS sensors. It's a friction fit and you need to use a feeler gauge to get the gap right between it and the ABS ring on the axle when refitting it (I think it's 0.7mm on mine but check first). If there's any play in your rear wheel bearing this can throw a ABS sensor light fault in the dash, particularly if you're going round a sharp left or right hand bend. Taking the axle out and checking the bearing is tightened down properly is not a major operation but may just eliminate it, or be the cause.
With mine (1999 G500 - disc with drum) the feeler gauge fits between the end of the ABS sensor and the ABS ring on the axle.
Great ressult and very useful for others doing the same job. So easy
Having never explored ABS before, Is it obvious how how they are connected? I thought the ABS comes from the half shaft? Anyone else had problems?
