preventative maintenance??
Trying to avoid potential rust issues in a few years time, looking around the windscreen frame seam (running full width of vehicle) - I was wondering if you can get access to give it a good coat of waxoyl or similar?
No real problem as yet - but have noticed that the paint has cracked where the two panels join.
Are the all like that? am I worrying about nothing?
Anybody thought about drilling a couple of access holes on inside?
your thoughts please? :?:
I agree with you that's this is a potential problem area I have seen serious rust problems on many 460's. You can access the lower part of the frame if you change your wiper spindles and the A pillar may be accessible by removing internal trim but I would be cautious about drilling holes or do anything that could weaken the structure. Anyone done this before?
Hi most of the corrosion is generated by the road grime and dirt that collects and acts like a wick under the windscreen rubber seal.(lift a section and rub your finger along to see what I mean) the only remedy is to remove the screen wash the seal and coat the inner channels with petroleum jelly..clean the metal edge that fits into the seal and treat any rust but do not leave any rough or bubbly surfaces. smear the edge with petroleum jelly and refit the screen... should be good for ten years at least..*** Vaselene is as good as petroleum jelly.....
lifted Spider 1V's driverside windscreen rubber on his GE500 and water poured out. He was shocked. So you don't think there is an inside out corrosion issue Peter?
Hi only that the heat from the demisters draws the moisture in from the seal and then it condenses on the inside of the window frame...to treat that area means removing the dash top and instrument cluster which would have to done if the corrosion has started to appear...
