Well now I have your attention!

I will need to change my tyres soon (well before the AGM if I can) the challenge I have is that I would like to find a good All Terrain tyre (as occasionally I like getting stuck in clay/mud/off road stuff). I have Bridgestone Dueler HP 265/60/R18's at the mo, and have been able to cope with what I have thrown at it so far..... but we can't get them in 18's anymore (Unless you know otherwise)

It has been recommended to get Bridgestone 840's Highway Terrain (as they are the only one's that can be found that have an R18 size)

What I would like to know from the Rubber Guru's out there, is this a good tyre that can go off road as well as on? Am happy to sacrifice a bit of performance for off road ability (will also save points on my licence  )

Your advice please

Re: Hot Rubber!

drop down to 16's and get some proper tyres, you won't get stuck so often and people won't think you live in Chelsea.

Re: Hot Rubber!

Would these do you any good? I know they are not AT tyres, but they are 265/60 R18...

Did think of that, but then again the snow, and rough terrain in Chelsea can get rather difficult at times. Especially up the Kings Road!.

I like the look of the BF Good's - but can't find the speed rating. Any one know?

The Grabber AT is looking like the winner at the mo, nice tread, speed rated to 130MPH! (which is more suited to Driving around Chelsea, mainly to get away from the 'Steamers'  ) What I would like to know is will it add height to the G? This could have some difficulties as they have loads of those bar things on car parks and play areas around here.

I looked at the Yoko's and asked - but they could not source them :(

Thanks guys for your help. (BTW Cozz Will be up at Holme Pierrepont this weekend!)

Re: Hot Rubber!

spider, the bfg at's are what you want to go for.

great all round performance, and they will give you a brilliant of road sureness.

check the p3 forum on waht the G500 owners use and prefer out there, i think hancook also have that tire fitment.

check camskill tyres, they have a list of different brands in that size.

[you could fit what i have on my 18's, 305x60x18. and you definately wont get stuck :P ]

Re: Hot Rubber!

ribbing aside you must chose the tyre most suited to the amount and type of driving that you do. If your using your G as your main vehicle you should stick to a road biased tyre similar to what you use already. And you could invest in snow chains for the mud?

Re: Hot Rubber!

Get a extra set of 16" wheels and fit either BFG mt's or my peronal choice is Goodyear Wrangler MT/R. The Goodyears are fine on road, I used them on my 55 from time to time.

Re: Hot Rubber!

btw, cooper stt's are by far the quietest tire in the mt range of tires  not sure if they have that size though.

i cant really see joe owning two sets of alloys and changing from 16's to 18's when he is going out to play.... [unlike me!! :P ]

Re: Hot Rubber!

@ Cozz - Apologies for not contacting you, I forgot to send out a note with mobile etc, will do next time, as we go up there a few times a year!

@ LEEU and PRWales - with space being a premium round the Spider's House that will be off the cards until I can get more space - but this is what I will aim to do!

@ Hu55 - spot on the money!

@ M2dxb - Thanks for the heads up, do you know what speed they get noisy?

@ Peter Perfect - Thanks, as no one has really mentioned the 'Grabbers' the BFG's AT it will be.

@ shauny + dawny - oh ho! ho! - Think of that yourself?

Well should have the new bits on for the AGM!

CU all there

Urm sorry little experience with them recently, perhaps others can comment on performance as they age - as for value for money, they keep going and going...

Re: Hot Rubber!

Spider,

Been looking at the same type of issue myself, for the 18" AMG alloys fitted to my 300GES. I noticed that ears-motorsport are selling 4 x 265/65 R18 BF goodyear AT's for @£430 on ebay. Which seems good value. Also they are located in macclesfield, so you could get them fitted on your trip to the AGM!

Re: Hot Rubber!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it. Although the meeting is "up north", it's still a 900 mile round trip down from Aberdeenshire to attend.

I have had my G Wagen for 6 month now and have not regretted buying it one bit! I've no hesitation in saying this is due to the valuable advice I got from the members, via the forum, in choosing the right wagen, and I would have liked to have thanked them in person!

Re: Hot Rubber!

Right the Agm is over, what did you fit in the end?

If you get a look at the Castlecoole pictures you can see mine on 18" alloys and 265/65T18 BFG A/T tyres.
On now since they first became available in UK/ IRL and 20k done on them. rotated front to back once as they tend to wear off the front inside and outside shoulders. Rotation stopps this and evens out the wear pattern.

Regards,

Mike
