Hi can anyone post a photo of the throttle cable end where it attaches to the the linkage at the engine. Mine has come off ( at an interesting moment involving a junction and a large lorry). It appears there may be something missing from the end of ths cable as I can not refit it to the linkage. Thanks.

Re: Throttle cable

OK maybe asking someone to post a photo was a bit optimistic, since it is cold outside and most of you are probably hungover.

How about someone posting a description of what should be on the end of the throttle cable. This does not involve going outside to take a picture or the black art of posting it on the website.

At the moment I have a small spring and a metal crimp which is not sufficent to attach it to the square slotted linkage at the engine. I just need to know what fell off so I can buy/make another one.
Thankyou.

Re: Throttle cable

Hi It appears to be a swaged end and factory fit..if it broke at the crimp the end should still be on the linkeage? if the end fitting has broken a new cable may be the only answer....

Re: Throttle cable

Hi thanks for that. I will take a photo of what I have left on the end of the cable and you can let me know what I am missing.

As you can see I will have to clear some snow first !!

Re: Throttle cable

Hi this happened to my 300GE a few years back, as you say very disconcerting and difficult to spot the fragile/aged plastic end bit with a visual check, but then it lets go suddenly.

I completed my journey by securing the end of the cable to the linkage by a zip tie. Unfortunately the small bit at the end doesn't come separately far as I know - though our GWOA technical rep will tell you it used to be available in the past, if you knew the part number. A new cable is a bit dear for what it is, sorry can't remember the exact price, and I'm away from the car now so can't take any photos. If you look for a rectangular opening at the throttle linkage, that is basically where the end of the cable is attached, hope the following links help, 1st is for cable (50), 2nd is where it goes (i think thru part 8, then 92, but not sure):

Re: Throttle cable

Hi, thanks for the above, very helpful.

I see now that it was the plastic retaining bit on the end of the cable that snapped off, probably due to age.Great minds must think alike as I also carried out a roadside repair using a zip tie.

Looks like the only proper fix is to buy a new cable which to be honest is better than playing Russian roulette at every junction waiting for the cable to come off again.
