Hi guys,

Lets just say for arguments sake that I wanted to fit a set of AP Racing 6 pot calipers and new discs to my G (i have 18's so size should be ok) are discs and calipers vehicle specific or could I get any set to fit.

When I search for AP Racing on ebay it give lots of vehicles, whould any of them fit?

I understand that brakes this high spec are not necessary, however, my G is more of a technical exercise, than an investment.

and for pure ponce factor, how cool would it be to see AP calipers through the AMG alloys?!?

Hello J,

How about Alcon?
http://www.alcon.co.uk/

They seem to supply Brabus (of G 6.3 V12S fame) so perhaps they already have a template or a disk/caliper combo in stock. Also with them being about an hour away they can always have the car to test things out in person.

Re: Advice on Brakes.

Really a can of worms if done properly;
Master cylinder displacement volume and piston size.. balanced against Caliper piston size, mounting radius... and then how do you balance front/rear brake bias. Then there is a weight transfer moment from fitting larger brakes but then you have messed with that already no doubt from fitting stiffer springs than factory. The offical prediction software for brakes spreadsheet I knew about had about 120 factors to input to predict good balanced brakes that complied with legal requirements...

However... no doubt most bling converters just lob on something that fits and worry if the car does not brake properly e.g. runs out of master cylinder travel, or they realise the back brakes are doing even less than normal. Not sure how an insurance company would view such an attitude... luckily we are not German yet so do not need a TUV stamp on every car mod ..yet.. :cry:

Guess you could work out the current front/rear bias of brakes and then maintain that ratio while increasing the disc diameter with the same sized total piston area on each axle and it would self balance.. but if taking drums off the back you need to think about hand brake actuation (some just put a seperate caliper on for this) and not sure how to work out the effective caliper/disc equivalent of a drum.. so you could start the process.

So yes you can do it .. but there are potential traps.

Re: Advice on Brakes.

I have a vague recolection from somewhere that the vented front discs from a w126 were a fit, can anyone confirm this? No use off road but a possible improvement for a road only car :idea: :?:
