The handle on the exterior of the back door of my 463 has come partially adrift. At the side of the handle that does not have the push button door release.

My question is - when I remove this trim will I be able to access the handle fixing from the backside? And is there any chance that it will be fixable without specific spare parts?

I have seen from previous posts, that the removal of the rear door trim seems to be just a case of removing the interior grab handle then popping off the trim (no screws).

Any pointers gratefully received!

Re: Exterior back door handle

Hi push out the trim caps in the handle ends and remove the bolts,,slide the inner catch lever surround to the left to remove it .. gently prise the panel away from the door frame until all the captive clips are free...lift the panel up over the locking button after removing the black plastic surround...the handle is held in place by one bolt in the door frame next to thr latch and another in the door panel ..this one can corrode and pull through the door skin..if you can get the bolt out a bigger washer may solve the problem......

To undo the screws holding the internal handle in place, helps if you can do this from internally, ie with door shut, otherewise movement of the door wrecks the screw heads( I speak from experience)

Re: Exterior back door handle

I got the handle and trim off as described. The reason the handle had come loose was that the metal threaded barrel that sits in the handle had pulled out. It was still attached to the bolt. So, I have glued it back in and will see how long it lasts.

Fix only a few weeks :( , so looks like a new door handle is required. Does any one have any pointers on removing the handle and replacing.

Re: Exterior back door handle

Hi, I had the same problem. My solution was to drill a hole through the handle then pass a flat headed bolt through the handle and fasten it from the inside as normal. I painted the visible bolt head the same colour as the handle and it is hardly noticeable.

My G is a bit older than yours so you may want to replace the handle on yours rather than carrying out my unorthodox repair, although it is a pretty permanent solution.
