460 to 463
Will the wider 460 wheels fit on a 463 :?:
This page might help if you haven't come across it before:

yes they will lenny, but they'll sit out the arches a few cm's...
trust me, they sit out...
due i think to the 460 having a greater offset. and also the 463 with arches has wider axles too.
check the wheels topics, i had a pic of a 463 with 460 alloys on it. it was a cavershams a few years ago. mortinson chimed in on the topic too,,,,
dont have pics at present though,sorry.....

I think Huss is right... at least with all UK-spec W463s given that all the imported units were specified either the option R02 (included in list price: wide track with 6x16" alloys) or R78 (wide track with 7x15" alloys and wide tyres).
Early continental Gs were supplied with narrower track, which allows for the smaller negative offset 460 rims with the optional flared arches.
Isa, do you remember the discussion we had a fe years back on the very subject? i posted pics of a grey 463 at max's farm with 460 alloys that sat out of the arches...you thought they were the 463 15 alloys that were a similar design. but the difference was/is that the 460 alloy and a slight lip and the 463 is flush.[the lip/dish on the 460 alloy creates the greater offset that pushes the wheel out of the arch on a 463 G.
Precisely... in the attached datasheet you will see that early 463s came in the continent in two axle widths: 1425 and 1475 mm (see F & G below)...
My point is that if you fit the 460 15" rims with -37 mm offset (as opossed to -67 mm) to a narrow axle width and fit the flared arches too you compensate the narrower axle with the wider rims. Cheers.
Thank you for that.
