I am experiencing poor performance with a 280GE petrol auto.
I have checked the mixture, timing and compressions - all OK
and when gears are selected the revs drop by approx. 6-700 rpm.
Anybody got any suggestions.
Also does anybody know if a petrol tank off of a 230GE will fit
onto a 280GE.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Poor performance of 280GE

Sorry for the late reply.
I have to set the RPM to 1000 minimum at tickover so that it does
not stall when put into D(drive) hot or cold over flat or hilly terrain.
The vehicle lacks so much performance that it is like driving with
the handbrake on - the performance is so poor.
Thanks again.

Re: Poor performance of 280GE

Hi look for a vacuum leak which will cause the air mass sensor to malfunction resulting in poor engine performance...a small split in any one of the vacuum pipes (plastic or rubber) will require you to set the idle high to compensate...engine should start from cold almost instantly and run at 1000/1200 rpm until warm when it should have dropped to around
700/800rpm....when started hot it should rev instantly to 1000/1200rpm for 5 seconds and drop to 700/800rpm..when engaging drive the revs should drop by only 150/200rpm....there should be no smoke "cold or hot" and no vibration/roughness...the throttle linkeage should be constant pressure from closed to fully open..check for any free movement at the throttle arm in the air mass sensor after the pedal has been pressed to the floor (not kickdown) and adjust the slide arm across the top of the inlet manifold to take up the slack......
