Hi all
i am a newbie to this forum.I almost read all threats in this forum , and it help me to repair my car ( G300D 1991 460.333 with OM617.931)
For me this engine seems weak.Im my country,we go slowly with low Rpm.
This engine does not give enough torque under 2000rpm.I tried to put a turbo to this engine, but still don't help in low Rpm.
I hope that experienced people can recommend me what to do.
I think i will swap a petrol engine to this car.But i don't know what engine will fit to my gearbox 711.200 ( starter on right side)
I can get M103 from W124 here, but not sure it will fit or not?
It's must be ok with engine 3.0 ( i need about 160-180HP).In city i go slowly with <2500rpm.On hiway i love to feel comfort with 100km/h :D
Please give me some advice.
Thanks all and sorry for my poỏr english ( rather ''Google Translate'' must say sorry )
Some pix of mine:
Turbo from Mitsubishi L200, gives about 8-9 psi at 3500rmp, but under 2000 rpm its weak :

Re: engine swap question

The L200 is a 2.5, id say the turbo peaks at to high RPM, can you try and get turbo from mitsubishi 2.8lt or larger, izuzu maybe ?

Re: engine swap question

You say "In my country, we go slowly with low Rpm.", why is that?

Here is my experience.
I do drive 300GE - 463 equipped with M103.
I've tried both, G300D and G350TD and can tell that G300D acceleration isn't what I expected.
300GE and G350TD accelerate the same(hp ~=) but naturally G350TD has lot more torque available all over the RPM range.

M103 peak power appears 4000-5000 Rpm.

I've being towing 2,5 - 3 ton loads ~100kmph on flat tarmac roads with 300GE without problem.
Be ready for higher fuel consumption when going petrol. M103 can, under load go easily 18 - 20 - 22 l/100km. Normal city/highway mix 16-17 l/100km, highway under 90km/h 12-14 l/100km.

Re: engine swap question

Thanks for advice.
I live in Vietnam, drive G- truck between bikes, so we go very slow.In the city the speed is 20-40km/h with many stops.
i think i will get M103 from W124 anh try to put it to G460.But i'm worry that my gearbox not fit to M103.Anyone know about that?
Regard!

Re: engine swap question

Hi put the Vin/chassis number WDB460............. 17 digits on the forum this will help identify your vehicle build details....from that can be determined what will fit and what will not.......

Re: engine swap question

Hi your 711.200 gearbox is 4 speed and has a removable bell housing to suit either Rh/Lh starter position....if you fitted the 717 series 5 speed Gearbox to your OM 617 engine you would get better low range torque because of the ratio spacings...you would need the five speed G'box... selector and selector arms but a lot easier than retrofitting a petrol engine which is more prone to stall at low speeds anyway.....if you did not change the complete exhaust system to a larger bore the turbo it will not breathe properly...and will spool up later.....also the injector pump needs to set up to deliver fuel earlier...
