Paypal

Hi,

All in favour of the Paypal option.

To be honest, it is the tedium of printing and completing the forms etc etc, that has thus far stopped me from joining. I am sure I am not alone in this. (Regrettably).

Any action that speeds up the process must be investigated and if remotely feasible offered.

Keep up the good work, I will join soon, either way!!

Cheers from Ireland

Should I just find out what today's exchange rate is and send a personal check in dollars drawn on a U.S. bank? That seems rather inconvenient all the way around. What would work best for you? If the PayPal option is in the works, maybe I'll wait for it.

You are absolutely right... that way of paying would be absolutely impractical, given that the club's bank would take more than the value written for the pleasure of cashing your cheque!

I, for one, believe that many foreign enthusiasts would join the club if we allowed them to pay with PayPal.

Paypal

If you transfer funds from your bank account to your Paypal account then pay using these funds and not a credit card there is no 5% charge. A word of warning to any newbies to paypal and ebay - There are a lot of scams going on at the momment with spoof emails ( they look very authentic ) asking for your account details etc. Never give out any details no matter how convincing they look. To check / alter details in your paypal or ebay account always enter the sight via the official URL. Some of these emails have links to the site which are copied from the original URL but in fact take you to their own disguised as ebay or paypal. If you receive any of these emails please forward them to the relevant organisation so that they can be traced and hopefully stopped. I have used ebay and paypal for a couple of years now with no trouble at all and find their services very good. We Scotts look after the pennies :P

Initially you only need to give your credit card details to Paypal but after a certain amount of money you then need to give them all bank details. I have just reached that point on ebay purchases

Roly,

I might be mistaken but I think that the one who needs to register bank details is the party receiving the money, i.e. the GWOA and you as a member must only pay with your credit card.

And yes, they take a fee (5%?) but this would be payable by the GWOA as any other administration cost.

But this is something that we will surely discuss on Sunday.

Cheers

Of course someone has to do the cheque run and I think David has to that at the moment.
How about switch or visa or being able to deposit a cheque at the local branch of whatever bank the club uses?

The forecast is for foul weather on Sunday..pity

I'm a bit old fashioned when it come to online payment, and still prefer to send a cheque. But i don't see anything wrong in having paypal as another option for making payment.

Yes, registered, but will you add 5% to cover their fees  Having literally just gone through the process of joining last week my view is that it's a pain to email then print off form and send cheque. An online option would be gladly received by the 'I want it, and I want it now' generation IMHO.

Online Membership Payment

Greetings all, one of the issues we will be discussing at this weekends AGM is the ability for new members to join and pay for their membership online, and for existing members to renew their membership.

One of the problems that has stopped us from doing this so far is the fact that it costs money to setup such a system - probably more than it is worth.

One solution is to use a payment system such as PayPal that is cheaper to use, however it requires people to register with PayPal in addition to with the GWOA.

How many of you would be prepared to do this?
