Re: 0-60 times

you know what's faster than a g500 or a 606 g? A G63. You know who cares in the real world?

Nobody really..

Good times Gordon, thanks for yesterday too, anybody interested in G's and conversions should be going on Sunday!

You know what's faster than them all? A Fiesta ST for maybe £14k.

It's a 2.8 tonne, 36 year old small lorry ffs

Re: 0-60 times

Doesn't mean to say I don't like the thought of a bonkers 606. But that's just amusing, anti establishment and counter intuitive.

A new fast G isn't fast in real terms, anyone who thinks they are is delusional.

Back to the original subject (sort of).

Does anyone know what the 0-60 and top speed figures should be for a 1992 W463 300 SWB auto?

Re: 0-60 times

a new Fiesta ST does 0-62 in 6.9 seconds, a super turbo 606 would probably ruin that , just saying ;)

but your right Gs arnt made for speed, i suppose its just nice to be able to undertake the tosser hogging the fast lane hahaaa

I think a G55 or 63 is around the 6 second mark (can't be bothered to Google it as it's all pretty academic)

Unfortunately you will at some point need to go around a corner and even stopsmiley

11.9 secs according to this: http://www.automobile-catalog.com/performance/1991/1564430/mercedes-benz...

Tbh, my '90 300 auto swb feels more like 13/14 secs. TT should help that smiley

Thanks Ian - exactly what I was looking for (and more).

End of August must seem like an awful long way away.

Re: 0-60 times

I could wind the boost up a bit but mine easily, well not easily but it  gets ahead of a rangerover sport to about 115

The lad i race does not care and thrashes the crap out of his range rover. He does come past at 120 as i have no gears left lol

Thats with mine as standard almost,

Higher boost and it will be better but i keep it as it is to suit what i use it for

I have pump and big turbo but thats for my 190

G wagons were not meant to be fast, they were meant to do a job, which they do very well even with little power

In my view best 4x4 by far lol

Landrover 90 second best for price but they always break things,g wagon just keeps plodding for 1000s of miles and some

Landcruisers awesome but too big and thirsty

G wagon

Landcruiser

Landrover 90

I think thats all to say

Re: 0-60 times

0-62 mph  [100 kph] is 13 seconds for a GE300

where turbo diesels come into their own is on the motorway the 50-80 mph zone; my son has acquired a vw Lupo 1.4 TDI  this is startlingly quick on the motorway, far faster than my wifes 100bhp 1.4 Arosa Sport, not as smooth but at 75mpg you don't care

The G has finished the conversion now, but is still being test drived for the next month etc just to iron out any issues, but reports say there are none and all is good.

Dyno day recorded .. 380 bhp and 500 lbft torque at the wheels, 456 bhp 600 lbft engines figures.

This is with the standard 722.6 auto box, when we pushed beyond 2.2 bars the torque rocketed up , and caused some slip with the gearbox. So to be safe we kept below this. On one run we overloaded the torque capabilities of the dyno machine so it must have pushed out over 700 lbft before the machine shut down.

Next year may upgrade the gearbox internals, which would mean approx 500 bhp at the wheels, but who knows.

Now the engine is done, more of the restoration will continue in 2016.

I don't follow, are you saying upgrading the gearbox internals will give you an increase in horsepower???

I think he was saying that he had to turn-down the amount of turbo-boost, due to the limitation of the gearbox being able to handle it.

Re: 0-60 times

Thanks for the explanation Arnie, although even with an uprated gearbox I doubt if 500bhp at the wheels would be sustainable if it requires more than 2.2 bar of boost to achieve it !!

Sorry for my poor explanation, i was typing on my phone you see!!

Yes Arnie is correct. By upgrading the gearbox internals , more boost can be used. Thus giving greater power.

With the numerous dynos we did on my G, we achieved 380 bhp at the wheels with only 2 bar boost. which is very very low in terms of capability, capability of the turbo , 'custom borgwarner s200' and the capability of the om606.

This conversion has been far from a standard; completely custom system.

I think many people under estimate the potential of the om606 and om605 engines, extremely  'USABLE 'sustainable power. We hit 500 plus lbft torque at 2000 rpm. Very low in the rev range. Only using 2 bar boost. 2 Bar is very low.

i will keep you guys updated in the future if i upgrade the gearbox internals, but for now, i am going to enjoy the G and all her new power :)

Re: 0-60 times

Some additional figures, the 5 cylinder turbo diesel, built from 1996-99,  the G290TD had 120 bhp and 207 ft lbs of torque at 2000 revs, and stated as doing the 0-62 in 12.5 seconds

the w210 which had the 606a 3 litre turbo diesel as standard in the E300 D model had 174 bhp and a torque figure of 243 ft lbs starting at a low 1600 rev per minute, the curb weight of this low cd car was 1630kg but its 0-62 was strangely poor at 12.9 seconds. Top speed at 132 was quite good though. Unlike the above G, which was a 5 speed manual, the w210's figures are for an auto

Re: 0-60 times

Yes very good

Look on team blacksmoke racing and any other big hp 0m606 engines

The old knackers do very well fo ran in direct diesel pump 1995 technology

Very smooth too

Im putting my best engine up for a project in my 190 merc

Shame its a very very rare car but it needs to be done

I know its not a g wagon but when its done i will post pics etc if people want to see them

Re: 0-60 times

For completeness I just tried mine out 0-60 took 29 seconds. Think I could go faster if I empty the glove box and ashtray.
