Re: 0-60 times

Yes it would,  but this is my daily drive and I don't think a petrol + blower would do 26 mpg,  HOWEVER,  It may get a bigger turbo and a 7.5mm superpump

so watch this space!!

12sec. Is pretty impressive and once you've mod'ed the pump it will make a G500 look pretty silly!

And it's just a little faster than my old 603

That run was in first which is a bit low, did another in second which is a bit high that was 12.2     I'm on 4.1to 1 diffs   on the 4.8s that were in originally,  starting in second was about 11 seconds

It looks good dun it !

I must be upfront and say i am a petrol fan (and a blower) but the work some of you guys are doing on these wiesel's is amazing !

For me i prefer continual fluid power delivery through out the rev range and a long wait before the slap then a loss before winding up revs and the next slap don't appeal to me. But having said that the magic and ingenuity behind how you do it is incredible.

Looks good Gordon. I saw on one of your threads IP on a test rig and know you were tweaking. Is this the 603 pump with 6mm elements ?

Id love to get over to your garage 'open day'. Workshop must be busy these days.

It'll probably give a G55 compressor a run for its money to 90 then you'll run out of gears.

aha we will see, looks a drag race needs to be organised at one of the up coming meets.

With the 5th gear overdrive, this will help the lack of gears ?

Seen and heard this setup .. and from 100 onwards the power keeps coming, wont be long till its done and ill video all the stats!!

Easy Spider, the guy who bought my 606 turbo, runs rings around his own 500 with it. Not THAT fast, but smokes the 285/75 16's on the black stuff. Never timed it, but for sure under 10. Any permanent 4 wheel drive smoking on the tar with big wheels has got what it takes. Can your 500 do that? My new 500 can't.

Just to add fuel to the fire in support of Spider..........I have a copy of MB's UK Recommended Price List for the G dated June 1998 which includes a brief technical data section; it says that the 0 - 62.5 mph (0 - 100 kmh) times for the G500 short and long wheelbase are 7.5 and 8.1 seconds respectively......  wink

Gentleman, gentlemen, gentleman (and any ladies looking in),

The case is simple... it's not about quantity, it about quality!

The afore mentioned 'Wiesels' (am liking that sooo much) all deliver the quantity and there is no denying that fact, though its how the 500 delivers that power - with quality, with fineness and precision, that just keeps pulling  up to and over 128MPH on the clock. No 'running out' of gears and above all the exhilarating feel as you get to the triple digits* and it keeps on pulling - and at this point, in a G, you are now starting to rub your nose at nature itself!

You begin to defy physics as one's 5 liter, V8 begins pushing against the very element that is called air! The suspension handles the speeds in a controlled manner and as any 500 owner will tell you, you will pay for it at the pump, however it's the smile and sense of being at 'one' with the elements you have just battled, the noise's you have just experienced with a roar (and less of an 'agricultural' clatter) and all cosseted in the finest wood, leather, carpet, air conditioning, DVD, electric windows and of course the lovely Blue lit sills.... all delivered with MB quality.... is why the 500 is seen as the pinnacle of the G's, the correct balance of power and control. Both on and off road.

It may not be the fastest, but as an 'out of the box' vehicle the 500 is very hard to beat!

So there! cheeky

Ahhh young padwan /grass hopper the Way of the G  or rubbing one's nose?

In driving the mighty G, one has already taken a step against the elements. By owning one of these rare beasts you have more than one life (and do not need to advertise it), and you have chosen to walk the path of the truly enlightened! for it has been foretold that the way of the Landrover is now coming to an end, manly because it got stuck due to the lack of differentials. For the differentials are the key to working in harmony with nature.

As an example - LR Driver - I have a Landrover and I will conquer the world and nature itself. A Gwagen driver knows what nature will throw at them and by having the sacred diffs will work in harmony with what ever nature will throw at them.

That fact that its done with a V8, 5 ltr engine means it just more enlightening, powerful and comfortable.

I hope that this has quenched you thirst for knowledge my young Padwan/ Grass hopper?

Re: 0-60 times

There seem to be two sets of performance figures for the G500/ M113.  The 2006 brochure (attached) showed figures around the 10sec mark but I have seen 8sec quoted as well (different gearing?).  Attempting to release the hostage, the comparison between 460/ 606 and 463/ 113 is comparing apples with pears. 12sec in a 2ton rear wheel drive car without ESP is more than respectable.

Re: 0-60 times

Getting back on track....

When I first got the G and had the new HT leads and sparks in, with the (then) new exhaust, half a tank of petrol , no passengers, no aircon etc, a nice still , warm day. I could get around the 7.3-7.8 seconds from 0-60 from a standing start. Over time and miles, I have seen this drop to around the 8-8.5 seconds again from 0-60.

Having taken out (while in Germany a few years back ) a 'new' 500, I was very disappointed in the performance numbers as it was closer to a sub 10 seconds - even though it had the newer engine with more HP. Go figure.

So as not to upset the original poster of the thread - maybe some of the diesel guys would like to post their actual numbers?

Re: 0-60 times

why do these post always go into 'my g is better than yours' ?

regarding times.. feels like im back in the playground talking piece sizes, this post is about 460 conversions nothing todo with the v8s and how they perform, when my conversion is done (early august) ill put £100 on beating any 500 from 0-60, these conversions are getting better and better. and for the record; i have wood in my 460 too , and air con.

lets not bash other peoples Gs just cause they haven't got a v8 , how old are we again?
