last week I became a proud owner of a nearly new G350. Been searching for the running boards. Have found some companies in UK and Europe who can supply them.

I called my local dealer in Edinburgh and was told they cannot be fitted afterwards as they are fitted during production as factory fitted option only.

I hope may be some members can advise further on this

Regards

Haseeb

Hi Haseeb,

Yes, fixture is possible. Have a read at the recent forum topic 463 side steps, or something like that. Several of the others have fitted these by themselves.

Good luck with your new acquisition.

Re: 2014 G350 Bluetec. Running boards

I guess you have a LWB, in which case you can get a set from eBay or direct4x4 for around GBP-630. ...or from a dealer for a bit more. I think that the 3rd party ones appear exactly the same as the ones from MB and they may even come from the same factory.

Anyway, on the inner sill, under the body, you will find 6 covered holes (4 on SWB) on each side which, when exposed, will allow you to fit the 3 brackets (2 for SWB) per side, using M10 x 20mm bolts and some washers. I also used a thin rubber gasket and silicone between the brackets and the body, to seal the fixing holes against water.

When the brackets are fitted (bolts only finger tight), the running boards can be placed to the brackets and aligned evenly between the two wheel arches and lightly secured. Then,  the end-caps affixed to the ends of the wheel-arches, and then finally tighten all the bolts.

It takes about 1 hour total, including the fiddly part of fixing the end-caps to the boards (which appears to be already done on the 3rd-party ones)

I fitted some last week, but as i have a SWB, only option was MB (or to cut down some 3rd party LWB ones, which I didn't fancy at the time)

There are also these from Romania, although - from their pictures-  the brackets look a little different to the MB ones (bracket vertical part appears welded back to front, so that the flat side is not against the sill and will require longer bolts and will have only edge contact with the sill.):

hello,

I would not have thought that the G350 would be available without running boards? Are you therefore also missing the wide wheel arches? was it not a UK model?

Re: 2014 G350 Bluetec. Running boards

Hi

The running board is optional  part of sport package as I bought the car used  .the vehicle has wheel arches not sure if the wider arches are required with new running boards

Mercedes Poole quoted £4400 fitted.

Manage to get a set of original  black running boards from mercteil.com

Hopefully will get them in 7-10 days.

Still trying to get used to heavy steering and pedals though.

Thank you for all the help

Re: 2014 G350 Bluetec. Running boards

There are standard wheel-arch extensions and the wider ones as used by AMG. However, where they meet the running boards, They are all the same.

Very surprised at your dealer price, as a couple of weeks ago, I paid just over 900 incl VAT for a set from MB in Brentford.

Interesting find, merteil.com, however, I note that they show the same part number for both the stainless-steel version and the black version. The latter appears to be just the same as the stainless version, with the omission of the stainless cover-plates on the black, anodised aluminium base (which will make them less hard-wearing)? I don't think Mercedes ever offered the black version?

Re: 2014 G350 Bluetec. Running boards

Yes, it's no-doubt from the same OEM manufacturer which supplies Mercedes, . The mounting brackets, end-caps, etc, are identical and - for the black version - the boards also appear the same, except without the stainless steel covering plates. All I was saying is that the black version is not an actual Mercedes part (ECP only lists stainless version) and I mention this only because it may be less hard wearing and prone to scratching without the stainless covering, just in case you wished to reconsider your order, before it is dispatched.

(Even Brabus, who are masters of all things black, keep/re-fit the stainless versions )

Although, of course, black may look better witch certain body colours.
