One of the hazards of living in the beautiful NW of Scotland is the large number of Red Deer with zero road sense...... Had a coming together with one the other day - the deer came off a lot worse : very dead! Fortunate I was in the G as any of the other cars in the stable would have been seriously damaged.

The main damage is to the nearside 'fender flare'; can anyone give advice on how easy it is to replace these parts and their price/availability?

Thanks.

Glad you're alright. Did you by any chance save the deer for cooking and hide? Venison is very good. ; )

Re: Fender Flare (Think that's what they're called) Replacement

Thanks for the replies! Adrian, I look forward to hearing from you further.   Gavin, would you be able to give me a price assuming they're available in the UK?

Good to hear from you Fred - yes I'm well thanks and a lot better off than the deer....... Trust you're keeping well also.

Gandore - yes we do use the road kill whenever possible! Sometimes the animal is too badly damaged but often we get a good freezer full from them. Christmas dinner is usually red deer fillet - yum. Butchery skills now quite good and we have had a go at hide tanning with salt and alum; all good fun.

Does anyone know how easy it is to replace the fender flares? My DiY skills are ok but just not sure whether I could do this job...

Thanks.

The have been a few sets sold recently and ion a regular basis on German eBay by a company called CRD, who does Brabus upgrades on new and nearly-new Gs. A set of flared arches go for around 400 Euro. Rear bumpers for around 250 Euro, including end-caps, and front bumpers with round fog-lights and end-caps, for around 300 Euro. Usually they are in polar white or obsidian black, but other colours sometimes come up.

Hi Huw

Part is A463 880 48 06 and needs painting in colour

£373.92 + vat !! Yes thats just for one!

No stock at MBUK or Germany

Code 78 at Germany means "Not Currently Available" translated in to English usually means its special order and 6-8 weeks lead time...

A full set at €400 seems a bargain...

Yes, just received a full set in obsidian black. They look brand new and saves me painting them.

Look out for items on sale from seller "  CRD-store-de "  on eBay.co.uk and eBay.de.

Every 2-3 months they list 3 or 4 sets, including tow hooks, front and rear bumpers, running-board corner pieces and sometimes, front grilles.

Last week, when I got the black ones, they also had a set of wheel arches in polar white, which did not sell, so may still be available. ( There was also a set of wide AMG versions, but those sold for around 900 euro)

Alternatively, if you still have the broken-off part, it can be repaired using a 3M repair system

http://car-repair.3mil.co.il/?mod=download&table=files&field=fi_pdf&me_i...,

Although, you'll still need to repaint it.

Looks like someone else bought those white ones and they are re-selling them at  higher price.

£513 now

Thanks Adrian - bit cheaper than MB price via Gavin.

Can anyone advise on ease of fitting please? Am I right in thinking that the flares are a fairly straightforward bolt off/bolt on situation?

Thanks.

Re: Fender Flare (Think that's what they're called) Replacement

here's a full set ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-G-Wagon-Wagen-G-Class-W463-W460-Genuine-Front-Rear-Arch-Fenders-/181709317632?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a4eb82600

Here's single ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-G-WAGON-WAGEN-WIDE-wheel-Arches-5-INCHES-WIDE-/321701963171?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4ae6ee65a3

BUT they ain't genuine and might be a poor fit. (although they are all a poor fit really if we're being honest ! haha)

I'd buy the pre-owned genuine set and just paint them cheap as chips and good as new buddy.

Look on the bright side. you could have been the deer !!!

neil.

Re: Fender Flare (Think that's what they're called) Replacement

Thanks guys for all the replies; as I only need one flare (the others are all A1) I'm going with cheapest new OEM part to keep the G looking good - will require painting but only a small area to spray so shouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, most of the parts on eBay etc seem to be either wider than standard (and mostly whole sets) or made of fibreglass.......
