Need a G competent Garage or Individual...
Hi guys need a garage that knows way around my 460 G 300gd, got a gearbox issue and I'm not happy with how it's running despite having been to 2 local garages. Can be anywhere in the UK really don't mind having it transported, based in East Mids
Any help much appreciated!
Sorry to hear of your woes.
The engines and gearboxes came from the W123 saloon cars and you don't necessarily need a G specialist, just someone who knows and understands this vintage of engines and gearboxes.
If your G is an automatic and if it has never has any previous attention in this area then start by replacing all the accelerator linkages and all the vacuum lines and valves. These are what control the gear-change and as they wear, everything starts to go wrong. Also check the fluid level with engine running in P, as I have seen a number with low oil and poor performance where the owners didn't even realise there was a dipstick for this. Change the fluid and filter and then re-evaluate.
What is up with it ?
you are not in LOW range on the transfer box are you ?
(I hate to ask but that was the case the I last time heard of 'it won't go any faster' problem)
Do you have a tachometer to show engine revs?
Hello Tee
G-Restorations would be happy to get it tip top for you. It sounds like everything is out of adjustment
Regards Gordon
Gordon does this all the time, so I am sure he could sort your G problems.
.... gears are not in correct order - 1st and 2nd are hard right up and down, as opposed to hard left up and down where they should be.
WTH? What sort of gearbox is that! I had a manual 230GE and the 5-speed gearbox was a joy although it developed a notch going into second. I would have though any local garage would be able to get the basics sorted.
It might be a bit out of your way, but if travel is not a problem, I can suggest Hardy Engineering Transmissions Ltd, 268 Kingston Road , Leatherhead Surrey kt22 7QA, tel: 01372 378927
I used them once to sort out some leaks in the transfer gearbox some time ago and found them to be very competent. The compnay has been in business since 1960.

Seems there is an issue sending either email or PM's; If you are still seeking someone in the East Midlands, I am Loughborough based.

Thanks for replies, Arnie its a 5 speed manual, hence why gears are not in correct order - 1st and 2nd are hard right up and down, as opposed to hard left up and down where they should be.
Scouse g aside from above issue also have running issues, speed is restricted to about 35/40 at the moment so something is holding back, been informed it could be anything from adjusting throttle, blocked filters although it has had basic parts replaced, timing, injectors etc.
