Hello All

I’m thinking of getting a spare set of wheels for my G, purely for off-roading  . Now the cheapest option is to get some steel rims (probably more durable too), as I drive a 463 300GD I am pretty sure that the MB 16”x6” Steel rims with the part no. A460 400 03 02 will fit, anyone else know if they will? I have tried looking for other in-expensive options for steel rims and haven’t actually been able to find any others that beat the official Merc G rims (£60 Inc VAT per piece). I have enquired with various companies who manufacture custom wheels and none have said they would make up steel wheels for a G :( . If anyone has five steel rims available to sell, preferably 16x6 for a 463, I would be very interested  .

Now as for tyres, I am certainly looking at a 235/85 size as my first choice, in some sort of mud-terrain pattern. I have been looking at the different makes around and the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R has caught my eye  , they were used on the land rover G4 challenge. A very aggressive pattern, plus the fact that when I went asking about prices they were the cheapest by £10, a saving of £50 for five which I can’t ignore. Does anybody know of good deals on at the moment for this size in any sort of MT pattern? Looking forward to some serious off-roading :D ! Any input would be appreciated, thanks all.

Will fit

Adrian:

460 400 03 02 will fit perfectly in your 463 series. In facf this was the original equipment all over Europe bar the UK, where the alloys in the same 6 J X 16 H2 ET 63 size (part number 463 401 00 02) were standard equipment.

However, for that same price (€ 90 each), I would go for the Sprinter alloys recommended by Klaus ([url]http://www.gwoa.co.uk/node/275]) which look a lot better and will possibly evacuate mud better than the steels.

I would definitely go for the 235/85 R 16 tyre size and for mainly off-road use I wholeheartedly recommend the BFG M/Ts. I have Track Edge fitted but it's better for mixed use.

Cheers

If your rims are 7 J x 15 H2 ET 37 (from a 460 series), I don't think that they will fit a 463 series.

Tried a few and BFG MT's seemed the best all rounder. Really good on road wear as well if thats important.

Have seen some Colway remoulds which are copies of the above. Half the price. Don't know if they are any good though. Anyone on the forum used them?

Thanks for all the info guys.

Jesus, I had a look at those VANtastics and UK prices are in the £100's and if I'd ordered them from europe their would probably be a hefty delivery charge. If you know of any on-line shops that do them in europe for the price of $90 euro's(inc delivery) I'll be impressed  !

Peter, What size are those alloy rims and the tyres on them, I may be interested?

guerdeval, If those steel rims are 6" wide I would be very interested :D.

Cheers All.

Adrian.

But you can still fit the 235/85 R16's on them....

I'll think I'll play it safe Jesus, both BF Goodrich and Goodyear, advise that their 235/85 MT's are fitted to a rim width between 6" - 7". Thanks though.
