Apparently the LR has electronic side steps that come out and down when required and then go back in and up when not required.

Anyone know of any similar arrangement available for G Wagons or even a way of making the side steps a bit lower than standard?

Not a problem for me you understand, but some of my more elderly friends do find it quite difficult to enter and exit.

You can get electrically operated steps for motor homes, they sense the door being opened and lower themselves.

Wouldn't know if they will fit a GWagen though.

Several companies are offering electric side steps for the 4x42.  These might also fit on the standard model but they won't be cheap!

Re: Those side steps really are pretty high

Thanks - those look really good.

I'm just thinking ahead a bit really. I like the idea of swapping my 1993 SWB 300 for something like a 2008 G500 but the steps on those seem to be even higher than the steps on mine and not sure my usual passenger would be all that happy. sad

Amp-research steps don't fit a G Wagon but have emailed them in case one of their standards is adaptable or suggesting that they might like to add a G Wagon compatible set to their stock.

Re: Those side steps really are pretty high

I have toyed with the idea of probably fitting an electrically operated foot step very much like patient transporters do applied to the side slide door for patients to alight and get off.

The foot step would slide out as it takes its operated via the door light switch and for safety only works with the hand brake applied.

How about the Defender Folding down side step? If you're not doing rock crawling with the G then I think you can attach that easily with minimal modification...and its not over priced.

Re: Those side steps really are pretty high

Got one of these on the motorhome. Has the option of a 12v motor which is activated by a micro switch on the door, has an ovveride switch and will automatically retract when the engine starts. It drops out and down and then in and up into the floor when it's retracted - nice piece of kit and would not look out of place on a G.

Cheers.

Re: Those side steps really are pretty high

Many thanks to all for their suggestions. Just because I haven't responded each time doesn't mean I've lost interest.

Some ideas there to think about/explore further.

Do keep any other ideas coming. Surely I can't be the only one who's wondered about this?? Has anyone actually done anything about it?
