If it is a major problem for the club to get the liability insurance, specifying each instance, risk assessments and all that nonsense, would it be worth looking into each individual wanting to partake, having their own public liability insurance tagged onto their standard car insurance? Documents can be held on file by the club and submitted at once to a "venue".
Just a thought?
Doesn't cost a lot (most probably have it anyway) and it's not as if there is racing or time trials involved.
Maybe the club can seek legal advice on this?
Getting liability Insurance is not a problem as far as I know; although not having discussed figures, generally, any vehicle moving events held make the cost prohibitively high, hence unaffordable. I had looked into this very briefly when trying to organise some sort of event to commemorate; this, year 2014/2015 our 20th anniversary.
The costs are very, very high so much so, the Insurance companies' hold the upper hand, therefore no such events are held, I do not know how we get away with it at our AGM's whereby, some offroading is catered for and that paid for by the club.
Please hold that thought and bring it up at our AGM.
So, how would it stand then if the "hosted by the GWOA" is left out of it and it's just a few broadly like minded individuals wanting to drive their vehicles over someone else's land, with the owner's permission. Would that get rid of a lot of red tape and "requirements"?
Our hunts and shoots have a great variety of vehicles and individuals (and 12-bores) involved and for certain there are no insurance policies involved. Just imagine trying to get public liability cover for a hunt LOL
Still say, get legal advice at club level. Often with these things, changing a minor detail or wording, drastically changes the legal position and liability.
That's what a few of the chaps on some of the LR forums do, they "don't" organise off road trips, and no-one "has" to follow him around, but if they do then they all have a nice day out laning.
West Harptree used to be a good site, not sure what the insurance implications are for that place thesedays. I've done a few LR events there in the past.

No problem then. Most land owners will want to see evidence of insurance though. I don't blame them, so would I

Laning is different, public roads.
How about something like Adrian Flux club insurance? I have no idea if this is a practical solution or not, I've only done about 10 minutes of homework and therefore in no way am I qualified for this conversation. However, it does state club liability for shows and the last comment at the bottom of the page I thought interesting. Thoughts?
From where I'm standing, you're very welcome here, paid or not.
Well, had a large A4 envelope in the post today..... "Wassat?" I thought....
Was a hi-viz jacket (handy for when the 110 breaks down....), and a wad of paperwork/G whizz mags, sew on badge, mini LED torch etc.
Many thanks to the committee for the little welcome pack!
Nice one Jim, will pass your comments on.
All that and a forum for £25, bargain.
Being one of the 4,000 lurkers for some time - it never dawned on me about the membership fee. This even though it had been mentioned verbally by another member in a different context.
Having finally put 2 and 2 together, I am pleased to acknowledge the help and support that I have been fortunate enough to receive from many members over the last many months. Some may know of a different and very costly experience that I had recently. But that's another story...
It has been mentioned earlier in this thread - but I will reiterate that it wouldn't hurt to make the membership "fee" a bit more prominent somehow. A floating banner would become annoying, maybe even off-putting - but a "tag" attached to replies to non paid up members after 2 or 3 or 5 responses might be a thought?
I say this as I dreamed through my "general" membership for months on end, without even realizing that there was a different level of membership. As I've gone for so long without realizing this, it's pretty certain that a lot of others have too.
OK. I'm now paid up...
