Ok , firstly , Hello ... This is my first post !!
I am currently looking at buying a 4x4 , and after resaerching my options , it came down to only 3 . A Hummer ?? Nissan Patrol Safari , or a LWB G-Wagen .... Hummers are a little bit OTT in every way , so that leaves me with two options ... so , tell me why i should buy a G Wagen over the Nissan ?? Ok , convince me :D

I think if you really want a G-Wagen you will not need to be convinced...

Chunkster,

I was inclined to reply to your message before but then I got a bit offended that you can compare the GWagen to a Nissan Patrol Safari..... are you serious?

As punishment I am not to respond to your question.... I suggest that you hang around in this forum for a while. That will be your penitence. If you prove yourself worthy may be -just may be- we will reply to you.

In the meantime, why not visit my website.... you'll learn a lot about the GWagen there.

Cheers

Ha Ha, Chunkster don't mind Mortinson! He's Spanish and as such is VERY pasionate about his G-Wagen...

I think tell us why you want a 4x4 (any) in the first place and then it may be easier to discuss. The G-Wagen is many things to many people so what may convince you to buy one may not be what would convince me.

It can be everything from an excellent off-road vehicle to a highly flash (if that's your thing) pavement crawler and all shades in between. After all how many 4x4s have won the Paris-Dakar, are excellent work-horses and yet are still sought after by those who want some Bling-Bling...

LOL,, don't be to hard on Chunkster, fine engineering is not always immediately noticed by everyone.
Chunkster, you've made the right division in dismissing the Hummer, (H2 i assume), what a completely useless bit of kit that is. The Nissan Patrol is a fine vehicle, ok on the road and goes well off road as well. Compared to most 4x4 it's a formidable truck, just don't go thinking it's even in the same class as a G Wagen. On road a Patrol is far more agricultural in it's ride etc, Off road it can't match a G either. Theres a list of reasons why, the 3 difflocks of the G's being 1 of them.
Whats a new Patrol cost, £ 24 / 25 000, that could get you a nice 3 or 4 year old G. I'd rather have a well maintained 3/4 year old G Wagen with a 70 000 miles on the clock then a new Nissan, no contest.
Anyways, follow the various links, in the Links section of the forums and you'll soon find out why G wagens are the best..

WOW !! Some of you lot are a bit feisty !! Why do i need a 4x4 ? Well, i have a Mountain bike habbit that takes me into the woods most weekends , and the Ford Sierra (Current MTB vehicle ) just dosent have the "Off road" ability that is required . Also, i have two terriers that require transporting to various places, they are usually covered in crap. I would like a vehicle that has some off road capability , has some "Charming quirks" , and be a usable second vehicle ... My uncle recently purchased a tired but rust free LWB "G" , Y reg , petrol with LPG conversion , needs some work for the MOT for £100 !! Also , a friend of mine has a SWB diesel , that has an appetite for gearboxes ?? This is used mainly off road and he loves it .. This has led me to my two options , Nissan Patrol or G Wagen ??? :?

you know it makes sense

The difference between a patrol and G may not be obvious to the uneducated much like the difference between a raleigh and a marin really, which would you ride?

Wot G???????????

Hi chunkster, I drive a petrol 280GEL and it is a thirsty beast (12-15mpg), but in its defence there is a bit of power that may be missing in the diesel (dont know actually!!!) Body work can vary depending on the year (and owner) usually rusty around the back lights which might require work, also the arches and sills need checking. Most, if not all parts are available through MercedesBenz, but can be costly!!!!!!!!! Anyways, I suggest the petrol for power and some day the Arabs will run out of oil and we'll all be in the s**t, so enjoy while its available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all you need to get on the right side of the one and only Jesus Fernandez. I'm quite sure all you need to know lies in the bowels of his P.C. With a handle like CHUNKSTER I would have thought the obvious choice was a Gwagen

Yes visit Jesus' website as it has a lot of info about the different types. Also check Vinther's website (http://www.vinthers.dk/AboutGwagen.htm). If quirky is what you want then you certainly can't go wrong with a G. Read the buying advice on this website and start looking. It can take many many months to find your perfect G.

Also I think Guerdeval will tell you that a SWB is out of the question for your needs as I now have his old SWB as it couldn't cope with 1 mutt and mtb...

As for the mtb, give me a Kona... (that's me being patriotic)

G4rce

Try G-Force:

http://www.g4rce.net/engl/index.html

arguably the most complete G-Wagen website that there is.
