Hello,

Aprox. year ago my speedometer stop to work on w460, seems that speedometer cable broke. Did not`t worry match because I changed very slow axles for bigger power in offroad and its hard to drive more then legal limits on road... :) MOT did`t find that problem so I live with it because I have lot of other car upgrades happening, specially in few month want to change to w463 axles and so transfer case goes too, then maybe will change cable...

After little inspection seems that in transfer case all working and indeed cable is broken (had previous changed other parts after few specialists said that those are broken and realize that they are not, so try to inspect more before changing anything)

But the weirdest problem that, when broken it seems little leaking oil from cable in panel and on boots... :) after my inspection it seams to start to leak more and seems that oil from transfer case is going by pressure out behind instrument panel... :)

So question, does somebody had the same problem? Maybe something wrong in transfer case to be worried? Or simply some seal is broken, only why so match pressure...

Re: w460 speedometer cable leaking oil?

the transfer box has a breather tube coming from a banjo type connection on top, this pipe is blocked causing oil to be forced up the speedo cable (finding the next easiest way out) this can also cause the speedo drive case to leak with oil being forced past the seals.
