is this a G invasion or what

Yeah, that's the G I mentioned in G's for sale - 300GEL, 145k, silky smooth engine, looks nice. There are a couple of 460's up my road as well and a black 463 cabrio off wykeham rd. Wife keeps reporting different sightings of others in the area as well...

Good idea Mark, though can I suggest RAF museum Aerodrome Rd instead? Just nicer, I think. Check your PM.

Amazing is in it :) ? we seem to be living so near but if not for this forum we would not know. Anyway Huss if you want to come down (sorry mate but we all leave NW london  ) you know you are more than welcome.
There is a nice park in Aldenham,Aldenham Country Park. Safe parking, picnic area coffe shop, mini zoo or better take your own cooker and make your own, next to the lake. Does any of the north london boys know about it? good spot for a mini meeting may be,very busy on sundays though.

TBR supplies stabilus 004636632 dampers costs around £100 inc p+p vat
As Huss wrote before we both have them fitted and it has transformed my driving to an upperlevel. It was a direct fit for my one no mods. needed what so ever. highly recommended.

That price similar at MB I think: http://www.mbparts.ru/?type=A&partno=0004636632 This is equivalent to GBP 86.44 + VAT = GBP 101.57

Re: Steering damper part No.

I just fitted the 463 fat damper on my 300 GE last night, cost £93 + VAT from my local Mercedes garage. Strangely when removed the old damper wasn't slack like I expected, was loose for about 1cm then really hard to move the rod. The new one is silky smooth have only driven a few miles but feels better already.

Re: Steering damper part No.

I have had 4634630032 on my 280swb for about 2 years: very tight and no vibration from the low offset wheels, but the self centering is all but gone.

But sure the selfcentering action ( or not ) would have nowt to do with the damper, selfcentering is a function of Castor angle ? or toe in / toe out ? surely ?

I lost my self centring when I put on the thick damper. It used to be there with a worn out thin one

Ditto. Tight as a drum but no self-centering!

Re: Steering damper part No.

Ah, yes, but surely this effect is only because the damper is stiff enough to override the selfcentering action as generated elsewhere within the steering geometry

If you have a late 460 (as I think you have), the damper should fit perfectly well. Just check with Ernest T Bass first.

€ 116 is some 76 squid, but obviously depends on the day:

Re: Steering damper part No.

I have done some miles with it fitted and the only drawback that I can report is some tendency of the G to lean to the right. The strange thing is that this does not happen always. I think my steering has a little bit of play here and there and the new damper has brought this leaning. Nothing important but worth mentioning.

Re: Steering damper part No.

benifits are huge mortinson,as you know and the drawbacks minimum i guess.the steering is a bit heavier, but the wat it deals with bumps and kerbs are immense.

Re: Steering damper part No.

Jesus, along with Roly's question, can the 4634630032 fit a 460?
Not sure if it needs a change now, but highly likely when I eventually get my rims and larger(ish) tyres.
Cheers,
Jeff

Jesus,
Sorry, Did not follow through this thread to the end. Rephrase question:
What about the older 460s? Can this do the trick too?
Cheers,
Jeff

Re: Steering damper part No.

my cabrio needed a bracket as it did not clear the bar ,(1986 model)
my 1990 lwb did not need any mods at all.

the photo is of my cabrio.(which i think had the damper previous to the latest one.
