460/280 engine query
1983 460 swb 280ge : am considering purchase, has anyone any advice about the engine on these? (+ common faults/deterioration to look out for on this model)

There's a fair bit to think about. Best thing to do is use the search function or even just browsing the "petrol" section of the forum will give you a fair idea.
The 300gd is a far more robust and reliable setup. Especially so in the "market" you are looking at. The 280 wants money spent on it from time to time and a scraggy looking one might not have had the care and servicing spent on it, which it demands. The diesels are far more tolerant of poor maintenance.
Hi vj your previous 280e LWB has all the same features as the SWB except its shorter ..not so hard to park...less to clean.... etc.. 1983 might have a 4 speed gearbox or even automatic.. fuel consumption 16/18 mpg
rust appears in all the usual places. the ride is jumpier and the turning circle better. hope this helps..
