The engine in my G (OM603) is basically the same as in yours bar for one cylinder more and I use a good quality semisynthetic 10W40 oil (never mind the brand as long as it is a good one) so that's the best advice I could give...
I would use whatever it has been running on (if you know...)
I made the mistake of putting full synthetic in mine (300GD) and it now pisses out oil when it used to be completely oiltight.
Lesson learned
Regards
Richard
I would also avoid fully synthetic like the plague. Not worth the money in this type of engine and as Kashi123 says it will cause more problems than it solves.

Having said that Castrol Edge is pretty expensive so I would go for the Magnatec 10W-40 and change it every 3000miles.
Payback? 4x4 trip through Bulgaria looks good :)

You will be wanting to change all the other lubricants as well then. ATF in the G'box... Hypoid 80 in the transfer box.. Hypoid 90 in the diffs and a good general purpose grease along the prop shaft nipples and in the front axle swivels. and not forgetting new "Dot 4 +" hydraulic oil for the brake clutch and difflock reservoirs after bleeding the old moisture contaminated hydraulic oil out.....well you did say your G' must be 100% right !!!!!
Hi Anna you don't mention front axle swivels (the housing that fits around the chrome balls at the ends of the axle) "a large allan key headed plug on the rear of each housing" and any grease nipples on the drive train. also the wiper spindles will wear and leak water into the front footwells.new spindles require dismantling and greasing before installing. old ones should lubricated once a year. remove the wiper arms and with high speed wipe selected drizzle WD40 at the point where the revolving part emerges from the assembly body "15 minutes each side"..then apply Hypoid 80 from a pressurepump oil can..(it helps have a rag underneath the spindle in case you overdo the drizzle) put the black spindle cap back on filled with HMP/Hi temp grease (ordinary grease melts in the sun) put the wiper arms back on and lubricate the swivels..do the same to the rear wiper arm swivel.... done yearly this will eliminate the need to ever change the wiper spindles and repeatedly having to dry the front carpets.....
Hello you lovely G Men out there, as some of you know you have a New Girly Member Joining last week,
Only a week? 81 posts? Are you going for a record Anna? When do you get time to perfect your nut tightening techniques, with all the typing?
