Hi there,
I am thinking of paying up and becoming a GWOA member but as I am not in England it would be mainly for access to the Library.

Could I have some more detail on these items in the Library? (Or perhaps a complete list of the Library items)

I already have a Peter Russek service manual and I have have a look at Mercedes WIS but was not impressed. I am looking for such info as pulling the dashboard apart or finding all the grease points.

So are the manual's in the Library actual scanned manuals? Will I find manuals, both Owners and Service specific for my 230GE? Can I have an idea of the general quality comared to the Merc originals?

I guess my other choice is to buy the items here:
http://www.rubicon-trail.com/G-Class/available.html

thanks,
Graham.

How hard is it to spare with 25 quid, it is the equivalent of 5 pints of beer, I am wondering if you ask to see the quality of the beer and the kind of glass they will be served in when ordering at the counter....

5 pints! Where do you buy your beer from? £25 would get you at least 7 down here!! Anyway, don't they sell it in thirds in Aus?

Graham, the maintenance manuals do appear to be scanned documents but I think the £25 is money well spent just for the knowledge of the other forum members. True, you don't have to pay to post, but you're more likely to get more help, more quickly if it says you're a paid up member under your name.

All the best,

Tom

So you dont think I am likely to be the only one who is curious about what my money is getting me? The only G-wagen forum (or any other forums I have been part of since internet forums came into existence) which has an extra fee (which I dont have a problem with) As stated I will not be attending any GWAO functions/events which would require a fee like any other car club. From browsing this forum there are lot of people who do a lot of their own work on their G-wagens and I expect this has a lot do do with saving money - not all of us see 25 quid as trivial.

Christ, it was a pretty simple and innocent question.

Which begs a simple and innocent answer!........ Depending on what your looking for, if its just manuals and the like then maybe not. If however you require the skills and experience in dealing with G Wagen ownership then one could quite easily cover the cost in the first DIY job you do on your G!

You also get the added bonus (Free of charge) of intelligent humor, witty comments, banter and heavy sarcasm (which is optional).

From Memory we do have a few Australian members and again this is something that you could have access to through membership.

I hope this has helped.

Grazza no hard feelings mate, the people on here mostly mean well, but the replies you get vary in helpfulness depending on what time of day/month/year it is and how people are feeling 8)

The usefulness of the GWOA means different things to different people, some people prefer phone-based support and resources, whereas some prefer the websites and links, as there are a great many useful links buried in and around this forum. Best of all is the first-hand experience of fellow members who have often faced the same dilemma and are willing to share their solutions, or at least what it cost them to put things right etc..

I'll give you a brief description of the stuff in the "GWOA Library section":
1. 463 info access: this is like technical training for service personnel to explain the working of various bits of the G, mostly related to US-spec 2002+ 463s, but a lot of the material overlaps older Gs.
2. G-Wizz online: this is the club magazine from previous years, lots of stories and some useful technical info/tips from around the world.
3. Maintenance manuals: are from 1998 and cover various material for 460/1/3 starting with the service schedule and maintenance checklists through to more advanced tasks..if there's anything in particular you are looking for let me know and I can look to see if that's included.
4. Owners manuals: Technical data, fuel and lubricants. Exterior manual (96-97), Interior (96-99, 99-2001). Driving manual (??). North American 01-04 G500/55 manuals. Nowadays you can probably download/view most of this for recent MB cars straight from the MB website.
5. Sales brochures: currently has the 461 290GD turbodiesel brochure.

I think there's a reason this forum grows by 2-300 members a year, when I first joined (2006) there were less than 1000 members!

Thank you.

I think I will join up to see the G-Wizz magazines.
Unfortunately most of the G-wagens here are pretty old (MB stopped selling them a long time ago) but I am sure I will find some useful technical info.

Anytime. The editions online so far are from 1995 (issue 2) to 2006, 18 in total, thanks to the efforts of our scan-man Tom (tclynes).

Very happy with my choice to join.
I was not aware that joining included getting some goodies in the post - all the way to Australia. Very nice stickers, patch and printed magazine.
Thanks GWOA!

Now how would I go about ordering and paying for a club shirt + freight, over the interweb...
