New Water pump problem :(
Hi,
I ordered a new water pump and they asked for part number etc etc and sent me the pump.
Got the pump today and heres the problem!
The pump seems to be the same up until the part where you attach the fan. The is a raised metal circle but no bolt hole for the fan. on My old one its metal raised circle is a bit longer and has a bolt hole for the fan. Is there something im doing wrong or can move parts around? or is it bacl to the shop?

I would say it is back the shop.
Pictures would have been usefull. Which shop did you buy from? An independent or a M/Benz dealer? (in which case, there should be no excuse!).

I don't have any experience with the 280, only the 230, but there are several pump options in my case and only one of them works. Try talking to the place you bought the replacement from and give them the original part number.

Also I can't find the original part number :S there doesn't seem to be one on it just the little merc logo on the blades and thats it

I have recently had the water pump replaced on my 1988 230GES.
After getting 3 different pumps from various motor factors (none of which was the right one) my garage gave up and bought one from MB and it was right first time. As allways at a cost!!

Hey,
Its from a company I've bought nearly all my Merc parts from and they've always fitted perfect but not this time. And I purchase it from the internet as the nearest merc garage is about 1 1/2 drive ! here are some pics of them.
